Thinking about buying real estate? You’ll be spending a lot of time looking around at different places. Knowing a few life hacks for buyers will make it a whole lot easier to get the most out of it. From what to wear to what to look for, there’s a bunch of little tricks that’ll save you time and make looking for a place that much more enjoyable. Here are 10 of them:
1. Sunday Parking
If you’re looking at downtown condos, it’s best to go on Sundays. Not surprisingly, there’s a lot less traffic and a lot more parking.(Not to mention the meter maids aren't around)
2. Watch out for critters
Before you open those beautiful patio doors look for an unexpectant guest first. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been surprised by something that has been hanging out.
3. Wear slip on shoes
You’ll be taking your shoes off a lot. Laces or complicated buckles will really slow you down, and get annoying after the first few places you visit.
4. Check out the neighbor’s yard.
How much effort someone puts into maintaining their yard says a lot about them; and you’ll potentially be living next to them and looking at it.
5. ‘For Lease’ always means ‘For Rent’.
It’s just a fancy way of saying so.
6. When in doubt GPS.
Sure you may think you know the area but just bring a GPS just in case.
7. Access the RVA brand
The Richmond area has done a great job of branding itself using RVA. Use this to research areas on social media and online resources.
8. Find out if the back alley is city managed.
Some aren’t, and you could be spending a lot of time shovelling snow out of it in the winter or managing your own trash collection.
9. Rely on your Realtor
Your realtor should know the area and be somewhat familiar with the home your looking at. Don't be afraid to ask questions ahead of time.
10. Don't rely on Zillow or Trulia
Often these sites are outdates and you may find yourself chasing shadows of listings past.
